select it and shift+backspace or shift+delete. remove a clip and the space it occupies causing all following clips on timeline to 'ripple' to the left. right-click it and choose Lift from context menu. Only thing that works for me is to click “append”, which simply adds the new clip to the end of the current one, and then I can drag things around to multiple tracks. select it and press backspace, delete, or Z key. Same thing even happens when adding an audio clip - it overwrites whatever is in the timeline. These keys move between different workspaces or bring up different viewers and displays within the different Resolve workspaces. It doesn’t matter which track I have selected, when doing this. I drag the new clip down into the empty track, and when I drop, it automatically overwrites the clip in the first track. When I create a new track first, so I have two tracks - one with my current clip and a second track for the one I want to add - the same thing happens. When I try to drag another clip to auto-create a second track, it overwrites the current track and clip. On macOS, you do not need to copy Shotcut to the /Applications folder - that is merely a suggestion. I think most here have discovered you can delete the unwanted transition object and drag the ends of the two clips back to their original positions. Then, you can just navigate to whichever program folder you want in Explorer and run shotcut.exe.
